Cask Edition Bourbon 2020 Recap

2020 was a huge year for our Cask Edition Bourbon program at Cincinnati Distilling. What started with a fun idea to finish bourbon in a barrel we used to age March First's Imperial Stout in turned into a really fun experience that you and we both enjoyed. We played it safe, but we also took some risks. Let's look back at some of the best ones!

Peanut Butter Edition

There were a few peanut butter whiskeys floating around in the world before we dreamt this up, but we knew we could do it better. We took our bourbon and threw it back in a barrel with peanut butter for a few weeks for it to soak in the rich flavors. What we were left with was a bourbon first taste backed up by peanut buttery goodness. It's not a sugar bomb like some of those other guys out there.

Maple Edition

When you're in the brewery and distillery business you make a lot of contacts in the industry. A friend of ours had a barrel that was used to barrel age maple syrup in. When they offered it to us we couldn't pass up the chance to do another cask edition! You may have seen some similar products out there that are almost like maple syrup bombs. This is not that. It's true authentic bourbon taste with a hint of maple sweetness. It's all the flavor minus the sugar!

Hot Sauce Edition

Where to even begin with this one. One of our suppliers got a handful of hot sauce barrels in and we thought....why not? There aren't many barrel aged hot sauces out there and we're pretty sure a lot of people aren't throwing their bourbon into a hot sauce barrel so we're pretty sure this is a rarity. What we do know for sure is our bourbon picked up a ton of heat. This addition into our cask bourbon category isn't for the faint of heart. If you love spicy foods you don't want to miss out on this!

Looking into 2021

We do have a few more tricks up our sleeves for 2021 including bringing back our award winning stout cask edition! If you know people who barrel age things and they'd like to sell their barrels to us we're down to try just about anything. It might be blasphemous to some, but to us we just want to have fun and experiment!
